The Authenticity Challenge
A commitment to show up as the only "me" there is
I look older all the time. Duh. Because I am. And ‘cause I’m about to be 66.
I’ve long said that if there were a movie about my life, I’d definitely want to be played by Zooey Deschanel. Usually people tilt their heads and suggest, “Have you thought about Helen Mirren?” One of them was born in 1980; the other, 1945.
I had a now-deceased family member who once refused my children’s school pictures saying she’d wait til their teeth grew back in. That same person didn’t watch anyone on television who wasn’t attractive. I think generic perfect people are boring. And fake.
Age and beauty are but two realities about oneself to claim (or disclaim).
